Best food in Panjim
Updated: Aug 27, 2020
Food is always the most important part of any trip, and I indulged in the best of its kind in Panjim. Go to these restaurants and you will thank me!
Confeitaria 31 de Janeiro
This bakery still bakes their delicious treats in a wood fired oven. The oven is visible from the shop floor, so you can watch them bring out their delicious loaves of bread as you are choosing your treats.
Do try the Swiss roll, bebinca ( a Goan layered cake), and local sweets made with jaggery- dodol, & pinagre. For fellow Malayalis,(who will understand the food references) the dodol is very similar to the black halwa, and pinagre is very similar to the Ari & sharkara unda.
So I enjoyed the Pinagre as it reminded me of the treat my grandmother used to make.

Viva Panjim
If you are in the mood for authentic Goan & Portuguese food, head to this humble restaurant tucked away in a tiny street of Fontainhas. It is always crowded, I should know, I ate here 3-4 times over my 3 day trip!
The caramel custard is a MUST TRY! It was the best I'd ever had, and yes, I had it at the end of every meal.
The pork sausage chilli fry was yummy! and so was the Portuguese style prawns ( I forget the name).

Address- H.No. 178, Rua 31 de Janeiro, Behind Mary Immaculate High School, Fontainhas, Panaji, Goa 403001
The Verandah
For authentic Goan food in a fine dining setting try the Verandah at The Panjim Inn. I had the Prawn curry with rice; it was good.
Address- E-212, 31st January Road, Fontainhas, Panaji, Goa 403001
Kokni Canteen
This restaurant has been around in Panjim for decades, and is a favourite with the locals. The walls sport the many rave reviews they have received over the years, and also black and white pictures of their beginnings. I had the BEST seafood set meal here, and it was unbelievably reasonable for the variety of seafood that I was served. The set meal wasn't on the menu, so it was almost like an open secret, because most of the tables had ordered it.

Address- Dr .Dada Vaidya Rd, Near Mahalaxmi Temple, Altinho, Panaji, Goa 403001
Bombay Coffee Roasters
I visited Panjim in the heights of summer, but I still had the hot chocolate here every day, that should be reason enough for everyone to try it! They serve hot milk with a stick of milk chocolate that melts beautifully to make the perfect cup of hot chocolate! Their coffee drinks, and sandwiches are great too.
Address-Rua 31 de Janeiro, Fontainhas (quarter), Altinho, Panaji, Goa 403001

Cafe Bodega
This pretty cafe is known for its delicious cakes. I had the red velvet cupcake and a glass of fresh orange juice; it was really good.

Address- 63/C-8, Sunaparanta Centre For The Arts, Near Lar De Estudantes, Altinho, Panaji, Goa 403001
I hope you try the restaurants on my list. Leave me a comment below if you have any questions, or if you liked any of my suggestions. I would love to hear from you!
